filter_dramaClass Description
This 8-hour course builds on the foundations of Surgery 101 and applies them to the vascular system through advanced vessel-handling techniques. Training begins with the Nobel Prize–winning Carrel Vascular Anastomosis, where students practice precision suturing, vessel approximation, and maintaining hemostasis. Emphasis is placed on teamwork between surgeon and assistant, as students refine dexterity, coordination, and communication under surgical conditions. Simulated procedures include aortic trauma repair, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, axillary-femoral-popliteal bypass, carotid endarterectomy, patch angioplasty, thrombectomy, arterio-venous access creation, and catheter placement within the central venous circulation, including Swan-Ganz insertion. By the end of this course, students will have achieved the technical finesse and collaborative skills required to take on the advanced challenges of Vascular Surgery II.
