The invention of photography briefly put in question the value of illustrations for communicating scientific knowledge. But not for long. People soon realized that the two types of graphics ideally meet different needs. Whereas photos faithfully record an entire scene, scientific illustrations show only what is needed to convey an idea. We’re not artists, but we’ve learned some tricks from people who are. Participants will just need some household items (see below) and a downloaded image. Someone gets paid to create those drawings in your science book!
