During the first session, students will install and setup software on their laptop computers which they will bring and use for the entire course. Topics covered: -How to prevent others from hacking our computers -How to eliminate the computer system's vulnerability, which is very crucial to our everyday usage of computers -We will focus on Linux system at first, learning some commands to help us navigate the computer system. -Learning crucial concepts regarding cyber security including password encryption, capture the flag, and other fun activities -The Windows operating system will also be covered as the course progresses This fun and exciting course is designed to give students a broad understanding of the usage of the computer systems and show them how to navigate the command prompt/terminal of their computer systems by the end of the class. The class will cover strategies in a cyberpatriot competition and prepare students for next season's competition Other concepts from competitions such as National Cyber League will also be covered and we will hopefully participate in the NCL competition in the spring season Students who successfully complete all 8 course sessions will receive a WASC Accredited Certificate of Completion. This certificate is respected and recognized by all educational and academic institutions. Include it with your school transcript & college application packet!
Students must be 13 to 18 years of age and must bring their own windows laptop computer which must be running current software, patches and updates, and updated anti-malware and anti-virus software. If there are less than 5 students then class will have 5 meetings No classes the day after Thanksgiving, November 29th.
